‘Why be a Forester’ Video Competition

Are you a keen and enthusiastic forester who wants to show the world what a great career you have? Do you want to provide inspiration to the next generation of foresters? Foresters are involved in a broad range of forest management activities relating to production, conservation, fire, water, carbon and policy. Help us educate people about the broad range of roles undertaken by foresters by creating a short 30-45 second video about how you make a difference in forest management and you can be in the running for some great prizes.

What you can win

First prize is a ticket to the Institute of Foresters Australia Conference 2017 held in the beautiful city of Cairns in Far North Queensland, which also includes a $500 travel/accommodation voucher from Flight Centre.

Runner up prize is a Fitbit Blaze ‘Smart Fitness Watch’ to help you keep fit and more (retail $300)

In addition, the first 10 entries submitted will receive a $20 Coles Myer voucher

What you need to do

It’s simple, to showcase your career all you need to do is make a video that addresses the following questions:

  • “Why be a forester?”
  • “What inspired you to become a forester?”
  • “What does a forester do?”

Film yourself at picturesque locations, working in the field with colleagues, using cool forestry equipment, climbing a tree, driving through some old growth forest, working with the community, in your office or just at home - anywhere you would like to tell your story! Feel free to edit your video to give it a polished look.

Here are some great tips on making a super video from our friends at MRL Media.

How to win

Videos will be judged on visual appearance, quality of responses, ‘wow’ factor and capacity to inspire young people into the profession. Creating videos is easy and fun and if you are passionate about what you do then we would love to hear from you.
