Green infrastructure

The Burnley Campus is a showcase for green infrastructure elements in the built environment. The green infrastructure has been built into some of the buildings on campus but some of them are also used for research purposed.

The infrastructure includes:

  • Demonstration Green Roof - demonstration of the various types of plants and substrate depth that can be used on green roofs
  • Experimental green roof – modules on the main building that allow to test the effects and benefits of different green roof substrates and plants
  • Green roof modules – smaller modules of green roofs that can test a variety of plants, plant combinations and substrates
  • Green walls – experimental walls that test the effects and benefits of green walls
  • Green facades – ornamental plantings on buildings
  • Rain garden – water saving garden that is similar to a regular garden bed, but capture stormwater from building roofs
